Varnish your desk with Accent®

With more and more people working remotely, having a functional home office that ticks all the boxes is undoubtedly an important consideration for many. Creating the perfect workspace at home can help you to feel motivated and inspired as you tackle your daily tasks. Having a dedicated work area that is neat, tidy and organised is the first step. It’s also beneficial to keep your office furniture in tip-top shape. One way to keep your home office looking great is to varnish your timber desk. A freshly varnished desk looks fantastic, and the coating will protect it from daily wear and tear, ensuring long-term durability saving you time and money for years to come. You can refresh your desk by following our four easy steps, and don’t forget to look at the shopping list below for all the products you will need before you begin.

ENSURE YOU HAVE THE CORRECT EQUIPMENT

You will need:

  • Drop sheet
  • 180–240 grit sandpaper & block
  • Cloth
  • Stirrer
  • Paint brush
  • Accent Interior Clear

1. Sand

To get started, lay down the drop sheet. Use the sandpaper to lightly sand down the desk until it is smooth all over. Taking care during this important step will ensure you get a professional-looking finish.

2. Clean

Clean the desk carefully to remove all sanding dust. It’s essential to make sure that your work area is clear from any dust and residue.

3. Coat

Stir the varnish thoroughly and apply it to the desk using even strokes, starting with the legs and underside surfaces. Next, using a long, smooth painting technique, coat the edges and topside of the desk, always brushing in the direction of the grain.

4. Recoat

Finally, allow the varnish to dry. Once dry, lightly sand and remove all sanding dust. Then apply a second coat. Apply a third coat using the same method.

And, presto! Your desk will not only look brilliant, but it’ll be well-protected too. Varnishing your timber desk might seem like a small improvement, but it can really help to elevate your home office’s overall look. And with only minimal products and equipment needed, this is one DIY project that won’t break the bank. We think you’ll love the result. Make an impression by updating your desk with Accent.
