Ensure you have the correct equipment
Having the right tools on hand makes any painting job easier.
Buy tools as and when you need them and build up your kit gradually.
You will need:
- Broom
- High pressure hose or sponge and garden hose Bucket
- Accent Sugar Soap
- Drop sheet
- Masking tape
- Paint spray gun
- Stirrer
- Safety glasses
- Water
- Accent Fence Finish in your desired colour
- A piece of MDF board
- Face mask
1. Clean
Remove any cobwebs with a broom. Begin by washing the fence surface down with a high pressure hose or sponge and garden hose. Next, use a cloth and Accent Sugar Soap to eliminate any stubborn stains, dust spots or general grime. Scan your fence for any holes or scratches and fill these in or sand them back.
2. Mask
Carefully mask over anything that you don’t want to be painted. This includes cars, shrub and surrounding plants. Make sure you are wearing appropriate clothing, eye protection and a mask. Remember to allow for overspray – things can get messy as overspray tends to go everywhere, especially in windy conditions. Lay the drop sheet on the ground.
3. Prepare to spray
If required add up to 10% water to Accent Fence Finish before spraying. The amount needed will depend on both the weather conditions and the thickness of the paint. To ensure consistent colour, use a stirrer to mix the paint and water thoroughly. Ask someone to hold up a piece of board to prevent any overspray from going over the back of the fence.
Ensure they too are wearing appropriate clothing, eye protection and a mask.
4. Spray
When using the spray gun, spray the paint with even strokes starting at the top of the fence and working your way down. If necessary, you can adjust the spray by turning the nozzle for a finer mist. Remember to change the angle of the spray between coats to get in to the edges of the fence. For best results, apply a minimum of two coats.
If you have a new fence or want to improve the look of your existing one, using spray paint could be the perfect option. With some preparation and a solid plan, you can get your fence looking great in no time and make an impression with Accent.
